Many people are worried about not being as productive, feeling lonely, and not having an efficient space to work from. However, the transition to remote working does not have to be difficult. Working from home certainly has its advantages, including the following:

  • increased productivity
  • an urgency to work as needed in order to achieve greater results
  • accomplishing high-quality results in a short period of time

As a channel sales rep  working from home, there will be unique advantages and challenges. However, those challenges do not have to threaten your ability to meet and exceed your goals. Here are a few tips on how channel sales reps can find success working remotely:

Find a Routine

When you first start working remotely, it is important to build a routine. It can be difficult at first to create a routine because there are no boundaries at the beginning between home and work. If you start working at different times during the day, you will find yourself working very late into the night. Eventually, you may find it very difficult to sustain that schedule because you will work too many hours.

It is important to have a start time in the morning, similar to what you would have if you were still leaving home to work. It is also important to have a stop time that is consistent with what you would have outside of the home. When you work remotely, you become your own boss in a way. If you need someone to hold you accountable for your efficiency, you may do so.

It can be enticing to engage in behaviors that will not help you find success, especially browsing social media. You can make some of the best decisions when you start early in the morning. You can make some of your best decisions if you start early in the morning while your mind is fresh. If you want to be a successful remote channel sales rep, you will need to have the right discipline and focus.

Find a Work Area

When you work from home as a channel sales rep, there are no clear lines between work and home. This is why it is important to find a space in your home that you can designate as your work area. The workspace that you set aside for your remote assignments, you will be able to set a boundary. Your own workspace will allow you to maintain a high level of focus, and you will be able to leave that work area at the end of the day and separate yourself from home and work.

Before you begin working from home, we encourage you to take some time to make your space feel like your work area. You will plan to spend a significant part of your day in this space, and you should want a space that allows you to feel comfortable. If you are not able to invest in creating a space for your work, you can complete your job assignments and remove everything when your workday is finished.

Use Communication Tools

We understand how easy it can be to only use text messaging or email to communicate with members of your team. However, these tools cannot give you the personal touch many people need. If you want to feel connected to your team, you should not feel embarrassed or ashamed to pick up your phone and call one of your team members.

Video messaging is also a tool that can give you that personal connection that you may feel like you are missing. Sometimes members of sales teams or the leader of the sales team will have feelings and emotions that will not be adequately expressed in writing. Using a personal communication tool will allow one to express those feelings and emotions.
